Sweet Friends,
This morning I have been pondering the question: What do I long for? My search to the answer led me on a journey. First to this passage of scripture:
“Oh God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of you, mediating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.” Psalm 63: 1-8
The definition of longing is a strong persistent yearning or desire, especially one that cannot be fulfilled. A feeling of wanting something or someone very much.
So, have you personally longed for and wanted more? Do you want more for your family, your life, your ministry, your home? Is there an area in your life, maybe a calling, a desire you have been struggling with and sometimes you just cry out to God to help you? Do you sometimes feel like what you long for will never be a reality?
My search leads me to the conclusion that longing is not a bad thing, because it leaves us wanting more, but what is the more? The secret to longing and wanting more and seeing those things fulfilled is obeying and making JESUS the center of it all!
Psalm 6:3 “I am sick at heart. How long, Oh Lord, until you restore me?”
Psalm 38:9 “You know what I long for Lord; you hear my every sigh.”
Be encouraged that as we long, God is faithful. If you are feeling desperate, forgotten, weary DO NOT give up- Keep Going- The results will happen at just the right time and in the perfect way, God’s way. Wait on the Lord and look and watch Him work. Look for Him in every thing- the simple things like the sun glistening on the tree tops, the smile on your toddlers face, the peaceful sound of running water, the Bible scripture or encouraging text from friend. These are just a few of mine this morning. God is there!
Never stop longing for more of God, more goodness and mercy that can come through our lives and pass on to others. Ultimately, we will always long, because we long for something that can never be satisfied on this earth. We long for eternity! and God created us to long for that very thing.
…I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself… Psalm 63
Lets set our eyes on the things above where all longings will be fulfilled.
Have a blessed day!
Jeannie
